Payday Lending Industry Gave $75,000 in Political Donations in 2009
Payday loan representatives in Wisconsin gave almost $75,000 in political donations last year. The donations are the industry’s strongest weapon against further regulation. Most of the money went to Democrats, who now control the state Legislature.

States May Prohibit Pre-Employment Credit Checks
Legislators in 16 states across the U.S. have proposed banning pre-employment credit checks. Lawmakers say the checks discriminate against people with debt problems, precluding them from finding a job. The companies that use the credit checks say they are good indicators of a prospective hire’s level of responsibility.
